| Hayan Charara is the author of two poetry books, The Alchemist's Diary (Hanging Loose, 2001), which was named a "Notable Debut" by Publishers Weekly, and The Sadness of Others (Carnegie Mellon, 2006), nominated for the National Book Award. He is a recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts (2009-10), has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and was recently awarded a Lucille Joy Prize in Poetry. He is the editor of Inclined to Speak: An Anthology of Contemporary Arab American Poetry (University of Arkansas, 2008), and a children's book he wrote, The Three Lucys, received the New Voices Award Honor from Lee & Low Books. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1972, to Lebanese immigrants, he lived in New York City for many years before moving to Texas. He is also a woodworker. |
