Fobyaa Editing Staff Launch Literary and Intellectual Project

Fobyaa Literary and Intellectual Project

Project leader (founder)

Fobyaa Webpage:

Algerian writer Souheila Bourezg currently residing in the State of Virginia - US.

Project staff member:

Syrian engineer and writer Abdol Mounaier- resident of Washington State - US

Fobyaa, a word which means abnormal fear in English, describes a state of mind from which a person may suffer. Fobyaa’s literary message is sent to some Middle Eastern regimes which fear the word, and to some writers who are intimidated by their fellow writers and therefore have become half-hearted and lost their voices. .

Fobyaa tells those writers to stay intimidated. However, we are strongly and determinedly moving on, unintimidated by your oppressive practices and undeterred by your fierce opposition to development and modernization that best meet the needs of our societies, inspired entirely by our deep roots.

Fobyaa, backed by an elite bunch of writers and literary figures, stands as a hope for creating the right intellectually enlightening environment to break the cultural lock and connect with open minds and elite literary figures.

Fobyaa is set to utilize the western free cultural and intellectual climate, especially that in the US to launch its progressive intellectual project from this website and its publication both in Arabic and in English. Fobyaa sends a message to all phobic’s: you no longer can muffle the voices of our writers and literary figures, men and women, or restrain their pens.

Fobyaa strongly believes that civilization can neither be bought nor imported. It is built by the hands of its people. Hence, the educated, the elite and writers (men and women) are the dynamo of change and modernization. Without them civilization cannot survive. They motorize collective and institutional change. We cannot create a world blessed with intellectual freedom as long as there are those, individuals or regimes, who play a detrimental role against breaking the wall of silence.

The wisdom of defending a legitimate intellectual claim is but a prerequisite for survival on the road to civilization and free life, pursued through rejection of all forms of oppression. Our main claim is freedom of thought and opinion to maintain successful and unhampered progress, which will be our prized bequeathal to posterity. This will tremendously help shape an independent, upstanding Arab character that can actively merge into its society. The one-track minded behavior can survive no more at this time of open-mindedness and rationality of thought. Today, we are more in need of the power of learning, not the infertile spirit of controversy.

Part of our problem today is that some of our educated individuals are unable to write and air their views due to intellectual oppression and for fear of some of our uneducated writers. Both have refrained from taking part in any effort aimed at bringing on change. Indeed, more often than not they would turn their backs on one another at the crossroads of fateful challenges.

Our problem today partly rests with a category of our writers and a few of them who believe that eloquence and other writing and stylistic devices and the use of terminology and symbolism are the ultimate end of their writing. They inflate their writings beyond their personal capacities, which exposes their ignorance of the true pains of the people and real components of the Arab personality. This circle of loose meanings, which lacks in applicability, is no more than just another of their writing skills, which has become the sole obsession of some writers. These, eventually, are just stupid hopes that can hardly go any farther than their noses. What they daily write, let alone how much paper they consume, is blown by the wind. These writings are forms of empty struggle, which fail most miserably in accounting for the spirit of the age and reality.

Fobyaa stands with open arms for the writer with a mission, the one with a strong word, sophisticated in meaning and form, a writer who promotes an intellectual project for his society. Fobyaa stands in support for all those young writers who are envisioned as a nucleus of good writing, whose sentences bear witness to their abilities and skills.

It is high time we got rid of our morbid fear ( Fobyaa ) of the word and the opposite opinion. We need set sail towards modernization and civilization. Fobyaa is a non-profit investment project, where the main asset is Arab minds in which we foresee the hope for the future, and a fertile soil for modernization in the Middle East. Fobyaa is not asking for the impossible. Fobyaa stands for you all. In fact, Fobyaa stands for all those who are unwillingly estranged from the world of writing.
